Biography

Thomas received his Diploma in Physics (1987, University of Wuerzburg) and a PhD degree (1993, Gronigen University) in computer science as well as in physics (1998, University of Wuppertal). In 2001 he finished his habiliation in theroretical physics at University of Wuppertal. Thomas is the director of the Institute for Advanced Simulation and head of the Jülich Supercomputing Centre since 2004 and acts as executive director of the John von Neumann Institute for Computing. He holds the chair for Computational Theoretical Physics at the University of Wuppertal. His research interests include lattice gauge theories, numerical and parallel algorithms, cluster computing, and quantum information processing.
